Her first novel Homegoing, published in 2016, was about the legacy of slavery and won a National Book critics circle Award, a Pen Hemingway award, and the National Book Foundation’s 5 under 35 honors.   Gyasi’s latest novel is Transcendent Kingdom.  The novel draws on Gyasi’s life as the daughter of immigrants from Ghana.
